Avast Free Antivirus 8 is now available for download. The new version comes with additional features and a redesigned interface. Even the setup ist simplified: instead of gray and orange color sheme of version 7, the new version comes in plain white. With 5 you can make the most common settings and the whole setup takes about two minutes. Like the old version, you must register after 30 days in order to continue to recieve updates.
The new interface of the scanner continues the bright look and has been streamlined considerably. A button makes the current security situation significant, six more buttons provide access to the main functions. Due to the large buttons you can also operate via touchscreen - at least on the home page.
The new service "Software Updater" monitors programs and plug-ins such as Flash Player or Java and announces outdated and insecure versions. The message is displayed in the category "Software Updater" in the "Security" menu and also as a desktop notification.
In all versions of Avast 8 is the "Browser cleaning" tool included, which you can alternatively download separately by the virus. The tool monitors and deactivates on demand add-ons in Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer. Avast is especially fighting against the annoying toolbars and changes to the default search provider. Unlike the Avast Software Updater there are no recommendations that an add-on sould be removed.
